Salgadeiras: Classic Portuguese Cuisine in Barrio Alto

Located in a refurbished ancient Barrio Alto bakery, near Largo de Camões in the same street that gives it the name, As Salgadeiras offers classic Portuguese cuisine with a charming and traditionally kind hearted Lisbon atmosphere with warm stone walls, red brick arches, vaulted ceilings and hearty delicacies that originate mainly from the north of Portugal. A small and intimate dining room, there are only a handful of tables, so reservations are essential.

A lit menu sits on an Art Nouveau stand at the front of the restaurant

The original bakery oven, just behind our table, is now a wine cave and dessert pantry

A whimsical carved statuette holds a bottle of wine

Salgadeiras house baked bread, not such a surprise, given that it was once the neighbourhood bakery

Tuna and lemon mousse, garlic butter and lovely runny Queijo de Azeitao cheese

The Sommelier pours a little of our red wine into each of our wine glasses and swirls it around,
to season the glass

The wine was then decanted and allowed to breath on our table
